Mike Huckabee and Creation/Evolution

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Southern Baptist Minister responds to the question of whether he believes in a literal interpretation of Genesis 1 and 2.

He rightfully states that the question is an unfair one, at least as it was posed originally and in that forum as well. But he takes a stab at it, interpreting the question to be whether he believed in God or not. Now, I think he's wrong on that -- the question wasn't whether he believed in God but how he understood God.

From his answer it is clear that he is a Creationist of some stripe, but he's not willing to state time frames (much as Sam Brownback did in the NY Times op-ed piece).

Huckabee is clearly articulate on his faith and the position of his faith. He insists he's running for president not being hired to write a biology text book. That is quite true.

There is really a better question to be asked and that is -- how do you define science and its limits. When the majority of scientists speak on matters such as climate change, stem cell research, etc., how will you respond to that question? But unfortunately that question wasn't asked and instead we got one focused on Biblical interpretation. Here is his response:

Hey Pastor Bob! Personally, I think people have been confusing the two or – worse – trying to supercede (or replace) one with the other. The Bible – for all it's goodness – doesn't explain everything. Science is about process and – frankly – God could've very well used evolution as a tool. I support process theology, so God may very well learn as he goes along as we do. Great post!

Mr. Malone,
God is learning??? You've got to be kidding. Oh, process theology. No wonder you don't believe in Biblical revelation.

I wanted to comment on what Mervin Malone Jr. said about "God may very well learn as he goes along as we do." If God learned, just as we did, he wouldn't be God. Think about the characteristic of God known as "Omniscience". It means all-knowing, which refers to God’s ability to know absolutely everything. Also, I do believe you can find that the Bible does explain everything, perhaps we cannot understand everything the Bible has to say, but God left His Word for us, along with His Holy Spirit as tools, wisdom, and helpers for us.
